The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has officially declared results from 16 out of the 18 Local Government Areas (LGAs) in Edo State, with the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Monday Okpebholo, securing a substantial lead.

As results continued to be announced at the collation centre in Benin City, the state capital, on Sunday, September 22, 2024, a clear picture of the governorship race began to form. The tally, closely monitored by TheRadar, currently shows Okpebholo of the APC leading with 244,549 votes. His closest contender, Asue Ighodalo of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), garnered 195,954 votes, while Labour Party’s Olumide Akpata is trailing with 13,348 votes.

These figures represent results from 16 of the state’s 18 LGAs. The collation exercise has been temporarily suspended, pending the arrival of the remaining results, with collation scheduled to resume at 5 pm (WAT) later today, September 22.

Despite the pending results, the APC camp appears confident of victory. Footage from their situation room shows jubilant celebrations, with party members and supporters singing songs of praise. Among the notable figures present in the room were governors Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State, Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State, and Lucky Ayedatiwa of Ondo State, all joining in the celebrations alongside a spirited crowd.
