- APC South-West urged youths in Ondo State to obtain their Permanent Voter Cards ahead of the 2027 elections
- The party said PVCs remained essential for civic participation and voting during elections
- INEC announced that the final phase of voter registration would run from May 11 to July 10, 2026
The All Progressives Congress in the South-West has called on youths across Ondo State to obtain their Permanent Voter Cards following the reopening of the voter registration exercise by the Independent National Electoral Commission.
The ruling party said the move was necessary to encourage active youth participation in the democratic process ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The APC South-West Youth Leader, Daramola Adesuyi, made the appeal in a statement issued on Thursday.
According to Adesuyi, the Permanent Voter Card remains one of the most important requirements for eligible citizens seeking to participate in elections in Nigeria.
He explained that beyond its electoral significance, the PVC also serves as a recognised means of identification and a tool for civic engagement.
“Beyond just being a voting card, the PVC serves as a powerful instrument of civic engagement and a valid means of identification,” Adesuyi stated.
“The primary purpose of the PVC is to grant eligible citizens the right to vote in local and general elections. Without a PVC, a citizen cannot cast a vote, regardless of their eligibility or political interest.”
He stressed that widespread voter registration and active participation were essential for strengthening democracy and ensuring that governments reflected the wishes of the people.
The APC youth leader further urged party members, youth groups, student leaders and stakeholders across the South-West to mobilise eligible citizens for the third and final phase of the Continuous Voter Registration exercise.
According to him, the call became necessary following the successful completion of the second phase of the voter registration exercise conducted by INEC on April 17, 2026.
“All APC local government youth leaders, party leaders and key stakeholders, student leaders across various campuses, youth groups and all aspirants at all levels are directed to mobilise members to fully participate in the exercise,” he said.
Adesuyi noted that the Continuous Voter Registration exercise provided opportunities for Nigerians who recently turned 18 years old to register and obtain their voter cards.
He added that the exercise also allowed registered voters to transfer their registration to new locations or replace lost or damaged PVCs.
INEC had earlier announced that the third and final phase of the nationwide Continuous Voter Registration exercise would commence on May 11, 2026, as preparations intensified for the 2027 elections.
The Chairman of INEC’s Information and Voter Education Committee, Mohammed Kudu Haruna, disclosed in a statement on Tuesday that the exercise would continue until July 10, 2026, giving eligible Nigerians another opportunity to register ahead of the polls.
Political stakeholders and civil society groups have repeatedly emphasised the importance of youth participation in elections, particularly as young Nigerians make up a significant percentage of the country’s voting population.
