- Big Brother Naija reality TV show is known for its chaos and drama which fans love
- This season, many fans have found the show quite boring and less entertaining compared to previous seasons
- Here are some of the reasons that may have contributed to making the show boring for some fans
Big Brother Naija is renowned for its drama, chaos, and unforgettable highlights that keep viewers glued to their screens. From explosive confrontations to surprising alliances, previous seasons of the show have consistently delivered the kind of entertainment that fans crave. However, Season 9, which started on Sunday, July 28, has taken a different turn, leaving some viewers feeling underwhelmed. Some fans have complained on social media that the housemates have not matched their expectations from the season.
It became evident to all in the fifth week when the show’s host, Ebuka Obi-Uchendu pointed, out during the Sunday Live eviction show that the fifth week has caused him to yawn more times than ever this season.
Here are some of the reasons the show has been boring this season.
Reasons why the No Loose Guard season has been boring
- Fans want altercations and bold confrontations
One thing that excites and entertains fans of Big Brother Naija the most is the chaos housemates create. This is why many fans loved the altercations between Rhuthee and Wanni x Handi in the last week before she left, especially, their altercation on Saturday, August 17. Some fans were also angry that the organisers of the show chose the fourth eviction of the season to carry out a double eviction when they evicted Streeze and Flourish. Many fans felt Flourish should have remained in the house and a double eviction was not needed.
- Housemates are playing it safe
Another reason this season seems boring might be because the housemates seem to be playing their game too safe. They shy away from altercations and confrontations and are very quick to dish out apologies and settle their differences after the few fights they have had this season excluding Rhuthee and Wanni x Handi. During every Sunday Live eviction show this season, Ebuka has exposed several secret conversations some housemates had about their fellow housemates which usually leads to some sort of altercation or confrontation in previous seasons. However, it seems the organisers of the show chose peacemakers and non-confrontational characters as the housemates this season because they usually just have a conversation and bury the hatchet without having any shouting match as the fans expect.
- Production might not be helping matters
It is one thing for the housemates to be boring and it is another for the production to avoid showing viewers the interesting incidents in the house. Many times, interesting conversations will be going on or it will be obvious that something interesting is going on in another part of the house and the camera crew will prefer to keep the camera on another housemate who is sleeping or a piece of furniture in the house, or some of their sponsored products in the kitchen. Some interesting clips have also been shown on the Big Brother analysis show, The Buzz, which never made it to the live-streamed show.
- Housemate selection
The selection of housemates this season may be contributing to the quality of the content of the show. After the housemates were introduced on Sunday, July 28, many fans thought this season’s housemates did not have as many interesting characters as previous seasons. According to them, only a few housemates have been very active and delivering on their promise to bring drama to the house.
- Ships
The housemates this season seem to only want two things, to remain in the house and to be in a strategic ship. This may be because the strategy of being in a relationship usually keeps fans interested in them and they would keep them in the house. This season, that strategy has been employed by more than half of the housemates. Currently, there are four ships in the house and one triangle. Most of the housemates in these ships are not showing themselves and entertaining viewers as they should. They mostly keep to their love interest and have a couple of conversations with other housemates. If they weren’t in ships, they might show themselves as interesting people with interesting characters. Although the ships can be entertaining, it can get tiring when some housemates are always seen with one or two people.
- Interesting housemates left the show early
Some of the interesting and annoying but somehow entertaining characters of the season have already been evicted, housemates like Dami who was evicted after the first week, Chinne, one of the Ndi Nne pair, and Rhuthee. Some fans were especially disappointed with Rhuthee’s eviction because they felt she would have brought more drama to the house if she had not been evicted.
Although the housemates tried to entertain viewers by playing word games and communicating more after the Live Eviction show on Sunday, September 1, where Ebuka said they’ve been boring for the entire week.
With the dissolution of pairs and the introduction of the parrot, fans can only hope the game will get more heated and housemates will pick up the pace.
