Grammy-nominated singer Ahmed Ololade, widely known as Asake, has recently ignited widespread speculations regarding a possible rift between his record label, YBNL, and its esteemed founder, Olamide.
This development has left fans and industry insiders buzzing as they ponder the implications for Asake's burgeoning career and his relationship with the influential figure who helped launch it.
The controversy was said to have started following Asake’s cryptic move. He recently made some dramatic changes to his official Instagram page.
A check by TheRadar on Monday, December 31, confirmed that Asake’s page had no YBNL in his bio and all his posts have been deleted.
From the check, Asake is also not following anyone, which indicated that he unfollowed Olamide as well. The new bio of the ‘Sungba’ crooner now reads, ‘Creative Director.’
This is not the first time Asake’s actions raised questions about his relationship with YBNL. In June 2024, he made similar changes to his Instagram profile, sparking widespread controversy.
Adding to the brewing speculations, Asake was found missing during Olamide’s recent Flytime Festival concert in Lagos. As a result, many concluded that it was a sign of their possible rift and disagreement.
Asake’s label mate and colleague, Fireboy DML was also rumoured to have unfollowed the singer on Instagram. This heats up the speculations on the alleged rift in YBNL.
Asake’s contract with YBNL
Speculations have it that Asake’s contract, which he signed with YBNL in February 2022, has expired, and he was presented with a new contract.
According to the report, the singer declined to renew his contract but instead wants to pursue an independent career.
The development of Asake’s alleged exit from YBNL has continued to spark conversations on social media, particularly on X.
Some believe that Asake should stay with the record label and credited YBNL for his consistent rise to fame. Others opined that Asake and YBNL can still succeed independently.
Numerous theories and speculations have continued to emerge to analyse the facts about Asake and Olamide’s ongoing alleged rift. However, neither party (Asake and Olamide) has commented on the issue.
