Nigerian controversial singer, Speed Darlington, also known as Akpi, has finally regained freedom after being detained in police custody.
Speed Darlington was arrested three days ago, for allegedly slandering Burna Boy in viral videos. In one of the videos, he questioned the authenticity of Burna Boy’s Grammy award.
In another, Speed Darlington made a cursing remark about Burna Boy’s mother. In the heat of the controversy, prominent Nigerian lawyer and activist, Deji Adeyanju had condemned Speed Darlington’s arrest and vowed to secure his release.
In a video and pictures circulating on Tuesday, October 8, Deji Adeyanju confirmed the release of Speed Darlington via his official Facebook page.
“Special appreciation to Egbon @YeleSowore , super reliable senior lawyer @stanalieke and to all Nigerians for raising their voices for Speed Darlington. Must also appreciate Prof Sanusi and his team at IRT for their professionalism today.” he wrote.
Deji had earlier revealed that Speed Darlington, who was initially reported missing, was arrested in connection to a petition filed by Grammy award-winning singer Burna Boy.
According to Deji, Burna Boy lodged a defamation and cyberstalking complaint which led to the detention of Speed Darlington for five days in Abuja.
