Nigerian singer, songwriter, and record producer, Innocent Ujah Idibia, popularly known as 2Baba, has been in the news since the weekend following the announcement of his separation from his wife, Annie Idibia.

The 49-year-old posted on his Instagram account on Sunday, January 26, that he and his wife are separated and currently filed for divorce, ending their marriage of 13 years.

Born in Jos, Plateau State, 2Baba began his music career during his university days at the Institute of Management and Technology, Enugu, and has many hit songs to his credit.

Though primarily a musician, 2Baba has his hands in other business ventures that make him one of the richest musicians in Nigeria.

2Baba’s sources of wealth

The Benue State artiste is reportedly worth millions of dollars and owns properties in choice and upscale areas of Lagos including a five-bedroom duplex at Richmond Gate Estate and a home on Banana Island worth over N400 million.

Among his luxury, vintage, and sports rides are a Chevrolet Corvette and a Ferrari coupe.

2Baba’s wealth comes from music royalties, advances, live performances, music streaming sites, selling merchandise, endorsements, and licensing fees.

1. Endorsement deals

Since the early 2000s when he secured an endorsement deal with Guinness Larger Beer for their Xtra Smooth campaign, the multiple award-winning artiste has constantly been the face for many brands in and outside Nigeria, driving customer patronage and loyalty.

In 2009, 2Baba was named as an ambassador for the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC). He was also an ambassador for the Nigeria Stock Exchange and telecommunications company, Airtel Nigeria.

He was equally an ambassador for Globacom and Star Lager Beer.

In April 2016, 2Baba bagged an African ambassador deal with the Italian liquor manufacturer, Campari.

In 2019, he secured another endorsement deal with real estate firm, Pazino Homes and Gardens, as a brand ambassador.

Also in 2019, 2Baba became an ambassador for phone accessories brand, Oraimo, under its ‘Keep Exploring’ campaign. His face on the Oraimo brand is noted to have drawn the attention and patronage of Nigerians to the brand.

2. Music royalties

With many of his hit songs like African Queen, Amaka, and If Love Is a Crime still dominating many charts and streaming platforms, 2Baba’s revenue from music royalties has not stopped trickling in.

The availability of his songs on music streaming platforms like Spotify, Apple Music, and Boomplay, ensures that his music reaches a global audience while providing him with a steady stream of income.

3. Live performances and tours

Another source of income for the legendary artiste is live performances and tours.

With many sold-out shows and packed-full events, 2Baba sure knows how to pull a crowd to any event he is featured in.

His energy, stage skill, and synch with the crowd during performances have seen him travel across Africa, Europe, and North America for shows.

Some of these tours and events include his “20 Years a King” celebration and the ‘Fortyfied’ event to mark his 40th birthday in 2015.

4. Business ventures and investments

2Baba has also proven to be a successful businessman with many businesses under his belt.

He is the founder of Hypertek Entertainment, a platform that has supported the entertainment career of emerging talents.

The African Queen crooner has investments in the real estate sector with properties in choice areas around the country.
