Nigerian music icon Innocent Idibia, popularly known as 2Baba, has pushed back against long-standing public perceptions about his personal life, insisting that he is not a womaniser but rather someone who loves deeply.
The award-winning singer made the remarks during an interview with Voice of Nigeria, shared on Wednesday, where he reflected candidly on fame, family life and the pressures that accompany life in the spotlight.
“The biggest misconception about me is that I’m a womaniser. I like women; I’m just straightforward. But I’m a lover boy. I love hard,” 2Baba said.
The Afro-pop legend, who has enjoyed decades of success in the Nigerian music industry, acknowledged that public opinion has often shaped narratives about his relationships. However, he suggested that many of the assumptions made about him are far removed from his reality.
Speaking on fatherhood, 2Baba revealed that one of his most significant personal challenges has been balancing the demands of his music career with raising his children. The singer is a father of eight and described his children as a source of immense pride and joy.
“I have eight kids now. I feel blessed and happy, but the sadness comes from the fact that I haven’t gotten to spend the type of time I should have spent with them collectively. It does something to me sometimes,” he said.
Despite his gratitude, he admitted to feeling a sense of regret about not always being physically present due to professional commitments.
“They’re amazing, brilliant people. I just wish I was there more. It touches me from all corners,” he added.
The singer also addressed criticism aimed at his wife, Natasha, particularly claims suggesting that she is controlling or exerts undue influence over his decisions. According to 2Baba, such narratives are often exaggerated or entirely inaccurate.
“Everybody has a say in everybody’s business now. Sometimes people say very nasty things. You grow thick skin, but sometimes it gets to you. Reality is reality, she’s a brilliant woman, a strong woman,” he said.
Beyond his public persona, 2Baba revealed a more reserved side of himself, describing himself as naturally shy despite his larger-than-life stage presence.
“My profession doesn’t permit me to be shy, but I’m actually a very shy person. Sometimes I just want to be alone and chill. Other times I want to hang out. I like nature; I have my moments,” he explained.
The candid interview offers a rare glimpse into the private struggles and reflections of one of Nigeria’s most enduring music stars, highlighting the complexities of fame, family and personal identity in the public eye.
