A British-Nigerian writer identified as Chidera Eggerue, otherwise known as Slumflower, has been heavily criticised for her controversial opinion about marriage.

Chidera opined that marriage to her is a form of transactional arrangement which can also be likened to prostitution.

Sharing her views on the topic of sex work, in a recent YouTube podcast on Thursday, October 3, Chidera insisted that a man even in marriage would leave a woman once she stopped fulfilling that sex role.

What Chidera Eggerue said about marriage

One thing that I find interesting in my conversation about prostitution is that, the thing that people do not want to recognise is and this is going to be very controversial to say but marriage is also is sex work. In your definition of what prostitution is, it is you sleep with a man and you get money.

You hang out with him, you get money. Why I said marriage is prostitution is because what happens is women engage in marriage because ideally he is gonna take care of me financially and physically. What you are doing is you're fulfilling a role.

You're partnering with him and sleeping with him in the hopes that you'll get validation, love and upkeep. The man understands that if he continues to do that for you, then the arrangement works because marriage is an arrangement. A man leaves the woman when she can no longer fulfill that role” Chidera expressed.

Chidera Eggerue, who goes by the pen name Slumflower is a British Nigerian writer and fashion blogger. She is best known for her book, What a Time to be Alone and her online campaign #SaggyBoobsMatter.

Netizens frown at Chidera Eggerue’s controversial opinion on marriage

Following Chidera’s opinion on The Zeze Millz Show, netizens have criticised her opinion on marriage being similar to prostitution.

Many demanded the ban of podcasts because it gave room for people to make insensitive and controversial opinions. Some had other things to say. See comments below:

@broke_punter said, “Someone said that they need to make podcasts equipment more expensive…and I agree because the amount of dumb people that open their mouths to spew rubbish is baffling”

@sisioljuede said, “Her brain is actually on her chest,”

@DOgbijo wrote, “A woman claims to be schooled and this is her definition of marriage - SEX WORK. What a dunce!”

@FahaaAkexx said, “It's been a while since I heard someone talk nonsense so intelligently.. proof they have an accent does not equate to having a brain.”

@6oss_x said, “She's got a tattoo all over and a nose ring and also a Nigerian woman, she's covered in trauma.I expect nothing from her.”

@GigaChadwick commented, “Absolutely correct in many cases:Women guise the premise of prostitution with the idea of Marriage, love , commitment as a resource grab. In fact the justice system is proof

That has been the case for many decades. Even more proof of the psychological value system that women have is onlyfans. Money in a lot of cases is more valuable than the individual playing the role that provides it.”

@araplimo39 opined, “I'm not saying that she has been a s3x worker but for one to know something she has to have experience.”

@mroieniola said, “See the quality of women wey want equality.”

“I avoid water as much as possible,” Wole Soyinka shares his secret to creativity [Video]

Earlier, TheRadar reported that 90-year-old Nigerian Nobel playwright and novelist, Wole Soyinka disclosed how drinking wine in place of water helps spark his creativity.
