Social media is buzzing with reactions after a leaked audio recording exposed a controversy involving Afrobeat star Burna Boy, socialite Sophia Egbueje, and influencer Ama Reginald.
In the viral clip, Sophia accused Burna Boy of deception, alleging that he made unfulfilled promises to her after an intimate encounter. She further claimed that her friend, Ama, had encouraged her to pursue a relationship with the singer, only for her to later discover him with his rumoured new girlfriend, Chloe Bailey.
Netizens divide over Burna Boy scandal
Nigerians have taken to X (formerly Twitter), Instagram, and other platforms to share their thoughts on the scandal, with many reactions spanning from disappointment to admiration.
While some praised Burna Boy for his actions, others criticised him for making promises he allegedly did not keep.
A section of social media users applauded Burna Boy, seeing the situation as entertainment or dismissing Sophia’s complaints.

The scandal has also drawn reactions from Nigerian celebrities, including Cubana Chiefpriest, Tosin Silverdam, and Speed Darlington.
Cubana Chiefpriest, who recently had a public clash with Burna Boy, criticised the situation on Instagram.
“Osho free no good oh Make una dey promise wetin una fit do. All this audio money here & dia. Shebi you say you de pay cash & carry. This is pure scam na her business be that and you know, na you still hustle her why defraud her for ordinary lambo truck. Ashawo na old business wey no go ever stop, brotherhood is super ashamed,” he posted.
Saida Boj also gave her take on the scandal, calling Burna Boy “Odogwu wey no dey dogwu.” She further called out ladies who have joined the trend in slamming Sophia Egbueje, stating it is not her fault that they have decided to be cheap.
As opposed to Saida Boj's opinion, controversial singer Habeeb Okikiola popularly known as Portable, criticised the idea of monetising intimacy. He called out Sophia Egbueje for demanding that much from Burna, as against what her father could not afford to give.
“Your papa no buy car for your mama, you con grow up wan come use pant collect Lambo. Did you adopt his surname? Or you want him to invest in vain? It is wrong.”
Speed Darlington, who was once involved in a feud with the artiste, addressed the scandal from a point that Burna Boy's promise was likely an empty one, made to impress or manipulate the woman.
In a live video, Speed Darlington questioned the credibility of Burna Boy's promise, pointing out that someone who drives a Mercedes would not be in a position to give someone a Lamborghini.
He also mentioned that Burna Boy has not provided cars for the "hungry boys" around him, implying that it is unlikely he would do so for a woman.
The drama also attracted Nigerian critic, VeryDarkMan's reaction, who weighed in on the controversy.

He questioned the woman's claims, asking what she had to offer in exchange for the luxury vehicle. In a tongue-in-cheek remark, he wondered if her offerings were presented on a "gold platter" or in a "coin platter."
VeryDarkMan further advised Burna Boy to press charges, stating that as a celebrity, he should take action to protect his reputation.
Social media personality, Oyemykke, also gave his take on the scandal. Mike used the opportunity to call out men who exhibit "gutter behaviour" and attempt to compensate for their low self-esteem by using material possessions to manipulate women into having sex.
Mike referenced a video he released five months ago about a similar incident, where a woman allegedly dumped a man who had lavished her with gifts after just a few weeks of dating. Mike emphasised the need to hold men accountable for their actions and to stop enabling their toxic behaviour.
