- He alleged he was detained and coerced into making false admissions by the EFCC
- The EFCC has withdrawn its arrest warrant against Eezee Tee, and the court has scheduled a possible arraignment for February 14
Ezekiel Onyedikachukwu, known as Eezee Tee, recently came forward about his troubling experience in a legal dispute with gospel artiste Mercy Chinwo.
He claimed he was detained and coerced into making false admissions regarding allegations that he mismanaged and withheld her money.
During a recent court appearance, Eezee Tee shared that after spending days in custody, he was coerced into transferring a significant amount of money under duress. He emphasised that the threats and intimidation tactics used against him were meant to pressure him into a settlement.
The conflict began when Mercy Chinwo sued Eezee Tee for financial misconduct. In his response, Eezee Tee stated that while he did sign a contract with Chinwo, she had breached that agreement by using funds intended for their joint project for personal expenses, failing to remit the necessary payments.
In light of this, Eezee Tee Concept sent a formal notice indicating they would suspend royalty payments until financial reconciliation was achieved.
Eezee Tee recounted that during his detention at the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), he was pressured to write a statement admitting to a specific debt without being allowed to explain the circumstances surrounding it.
He firmly stated, "What I will not take is to be arm-twisted. I will not be bullied or intimidated. Nobody has a monopoly on madness; the law is the law."
He emphasised their agreements prepared by a certified lawyer, Udo Udoma, was a "50/50 split of the gross, not net”
Furthermore, he expressed a quest for justice, asserting, "This is not just about money. This is about truth, sincerity, and integrity."
In his address, Onyedikachukwu stated, “There has been a purported, orchestrated, evil agenda to sell the wrong impression to the public.”
He pointed out the lack of notice he received regarding the legal proceedings and described his experiences at the EFCC, mentioning, “On the 10th of December, I went to the EFCC and waited for about four hours, and no one attended to me."
He also claimed to have been detained for nine days, alleging that “a fundamental human right has been filed against me. My right was breached during my nine-day detention in Ilorin.”
The legal conflict took a significant turn when the EFCC withdrew its arrest warrant against Eezee Tee on January 24 at the Federal High Court in Ikoyi, Lagos. This withdrawal followed ongoing disputes over a 50/50 gross revenue-sharing agreement between Mercy Chinwo and Eezee Tee, with Eezee Concepts asserting they had paid Chinwo $625,000, a central figure in the disagreement.
As the situation develops, the court has scheduled a potential arraignment and hearing for February 14. Meanwhile, Eezee Tee remains steadfast in his position, asserting that he “will not be bullied or intimidated, and I demand that the truth be revealed and finalised.”
He urged the public to focus on uncovering the truth, warning against emotional bias and calling for transparency in the matter. "This situation is bigger than what meets the eye, and the truth will come to light.”
