Nollywood actresses Jemima Osunde and Omowunmi Dada have bravely shared their terrifying experiences of disease acquired while working on movie sets. This revelation has sent ripples through the industry and resonated with fans and fellow actors alike.

On January 24, Jemima Osunde took to her X (formerly Twitter) account to disclose the health issue that has plagued her for the past three years.

Her heartfelt post read,

I’ve never regretted anything the way I regret taking that job and going with them to Ibadan to shoot under their care... I contracted H. pylori from set food, and the aftermath of GERD has left me fighting for my life the last three years. The past month has really been something.”

Jemima’s candidness not only shed light on her struggles but also encouraged her colleague, Omowunmi Dada, to share her own harrowing tale. Omowunmi, an award-winning actress, recounted the traumatic experience of contracting sepsis during a filming project in Oyo town. She revealed,

My dear... I got sepsis on a project in Oyo; they literally left me in the hotel. Thank God my family and management got a car to take me to a hospital in Ibadan. I got there unconscious. It was SEPSIS, and I was lucky to be alive. Funny thing, production asked for a full refund. Hmm…”

Shocked, in response, Osunde further added her experience with producers asking for refunds despite her health. She posted: “

OMG!!! Sepsis?? thank God for your life sis! THANK GOD!
Sameeee! I got myself to Lagos and to the hospital. Paid for my treatment myself.
“They were sending me messages about a refund. By the time my team sent a response with all the clauses they had breached in the contract they went quiet. Talking about a refund when you haven’t even asked if I’ve recovered.”

These revelations have sparked mixed reactions on social media, with some netizens expressing their frustration and disappointment toward Nollywood producers for their apparent negligence and insensitivity toward the health and safety of the actresses. At the same time, some believed the health issues were exaggerated.

@Patoslam2 commented: “It's a 2-way street. What does their contract say about cases where the production suffers a setback? Do they keep their full payments? If so, then dem suppose return their payments for not completing their roles. After all, na someone else dem go pay.”

@judographix24 commented: “Nawaoo the producer are meant to take proper care of the team. They should add it as a clause when making a deal 🤝”
