Undoubtedly one of the biggest hip-hop artistes of his time, Canadian rapper, Aubrey Graham, popularly known as Drake, has worked with some of Nigeria’s biggest Afrobeats artistes.

The latest addition to the list is Rema, with an unreleased featured song Mention Me with Drake.

A short video clip trending on X (formerly Twitter) on August 7 captured Drake and OVO crew members’ reactions to Rema’s verse on Mention Me

With expressions like ‘loved it,’ ‘another banger,’ and ‘He’s so on fire,’ 37-year-old Drake and OVO crew members hailed Rema while previewing the song.

Drake’s run of combining cultural influences around the globe is arguably something that has greatly contributed to his unprecedented achievements in music.

Meanwhile, sometime in 2022, Rema had tweeted his wish to collaborate with the Canadian superstar saying, “The day me and Drake actually drop, hmm.” It is safe to say Rema’s wish has finally come true.

Following Rema’s recent collaboration with Drake, TheRadar spotlights Nigerian Afrobeats artistes who have featured with Drake on a song.

4 Nigerian singers who have collaborated with Drake

Wizkid (2015, 2016, 2017)

The collaborative relationship between Wizkid and Drake is probably the most recognised across the world. Their musical bond was evident on One Dance, which became the first song to hit 1 billion streams on Spotify. One Dance was released in 2016 from Drake’s fourth studio album ‘Views.’ The Canadian rapper and Wizkid also featured on Come Closer off Wizkid’s third studio album ‘Sounds from the Other Side’ to clinch Gold in Canada. They also worked on Wizkid’s classic song ‘Ojuelegba’ which was lifted directly off Wizkid’s 2014 sophomore album ‘Ayo’ but a remix version.

Burna Boy (2017)

Burna Boy is another Nigerian artiste who has worked with Drake. Drake had released a 22-track tape titled More Life, and Burna Boy’s vocal was sampled on his fifth track ‘Get it Together.’ A fan who listened at the time was in doubt because the song was mainly dominated by the vocals of British singer Jorja Smith while Drake sang the chorus.

However, Burna Boy affirmed that his vocals were sampled when he replied to a fan who noticed the sample.

Tems (2021)

Drake also featured Tems, one of Afrobeats’ leading female singers on Fountains, which was taken off his 2021-released album Certified Lover Boy. Co-produced by Aubrey’s go-to producer Noah Shebib, the song debuted at number 26 on Billboard Hot 100, and it secured Tems second entry on the chart.

Rema (2024)

Nigeria singer Rema is the latest addition to Afrobeats singers who have worked with Drake on a song. With his verse on Drake’s unreleased ‘Mention Me’ making rounds on social media. The Nigerian superstar raises anticipation to top charts with the collaboration.

Ayra Starr solidifies her superstar status with sophomore album 'The Year I Turned 21'
