- Jurgen Klopp urged Liverpool to secure Mohamed Salah's future as his contract nears expiration, potentially leaving on a free transfer
- Salah, Van Dijk, and Alexander-Arnold are out of contract this summer, sparking concerns about Liverpool losing three key players
- Salah’s 21 goals this season have been crucial for Liverpool, keeping them competitive on all fronts
Former Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has voiced concerns about Mohamed Salah’s uncertain future at Anfield.
The Egyptian forward’s current contract expires at the end of the season, raising the prospect of a free transfer departure in the summer. Klopp, now serving as Red Bull’s Head of Global Soccer, expressed his hope that Salah, alongside defenders Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold, would extend their contracts.
Speaking about Salah’s impact, Klopp said,
“He’s the biggest striker Liverpool have had in many years. There were other great players too, but Salah is a fantastic player and human being. He’s an outstanding athlete and the best ambassador your country could have. I hope he stays at Liverpool.”
Salah has been an important figure at Liverpool since Klopp signed him in 2017. Under the German’s guidance, Salah scored an astounding 232 goals for the Reds, including 21 goals across all competitions this season.
The forward’s exploits have helped Liverpool secure major honours, including a Premier League title, a UEFA Champions League crown, and multiple domestic trophies. However, the 31-year-old recently hinted that contract extension talks have stalled, stating that there had been “no progress” in negotiations.
Klopp’s seven-year tenure at Liverpool saw him build a team capable of dominating Europe, with Mohamed Salah playing a central role. The German manager stated the challenge of replacing a player of Salah’s calibre, should he leave.
Liverpool is currently flourishing under new manager Arne Slot, leading both the Premier League and the Champions League.
Despite this success, Klopp emphasised the importance of keeping Salah, Van Dijk, and Alexander-Arnold, who are also nearing the end of their contracts,
“I’m so happy I’m not in charge of these decisions anymore. From my perspective, I’d love all three to extend. Liverpool is playing some of the best football in the world right now. Even if you’re not a supporter, you should watch them,” Klopp remarked.
With Liverpool’s title hopes alive and Salah continuing to deliver on the pitch, the club faces a race against time to secure its star assets and preserve a golden era of stars.
