Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for promptly signing the Electoral Act Amendment Bill 2026 into law.

In a statement issued on Wednesday by his Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media, Lere Olayinka, Wike described the President’s swift assent as a strong demonstration of commitment to strengthening Nigeria’s democratic process and enhancing the credibility of elections.

The minister also praised the National Assembly for passing the amended bill, noting that the immediate presidential approval had ended what he called unnecessary protests by those allegedly preparing excuses for electoral defeat.

According to Wike, democracy is a work in progress that must continuously evolve through periodic reforms.

“Democracy has always been a work-in-progress, as it has continuously evolved. By always looking into the Electoral Act with a view to strengthening our democratic process, it is sure that we will keep getting it better,” he said.

He congratulated both the President and lawmakers for their roles in reinforcing democratic governance, particularly applauding Tinubu for signing the bill within 24 hours.
