The incident quickly gained widespread attention, prompting a response from the Nigerian Police Force (NPF).
A spokesperson for the NPF emphasised that failing to assist an officer in distress is a criminal offence, with penalties including a fine of up to N100,000 or a possible prison sentence of up to three months.
While the cause of the altercation remained unclear, as the video, recorded by a passing motorist, provided no context, social media erupted with reactions.
