- Senate confirmed all seven nominees from President Tinubu after thorough screening
- Bianca Odumegu-Ojukwu emphasised national unity during her screening
- Jumoke Oduwole selected as Minister of Industry stressed the need to integrate monetary and fiscal policies to boost growth
The Senate has approved all seven ministerial nominees put forward by President Bola Tinubu, which were submitted for quick consideration last week.
This comes after the upper chamber screened the nominees on Wednesday, October 30, following a postponement of the screening originally scheduled earlier.
Lawmakers began screening with Yilwatda
All nominees were interrogated about their plans for running their ministries efficiently, and their satisfactory responses earned them the Senators' confirmation.
The lawmakers started with Nentawe Yilwatda, the nominee chosen to succeed Betta Edu as the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction.
The screening continued with other appointees, including Bianca Odumegu-Ojukwu, nominated to serve as the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs.
Bianca said, “I am here because I believe that if we are able to come together sincerely to commit to serving this nation, focusing on ensuring that we have peace, then the sky is the limit for this country.
“There is hope for this country if we sincerely commit to unity and focus on peace, Nigeria’s potential is limitless.”
All nominees questioned about plans for effective ministry management
Maigari Dingyadi was nominated for the position of Minister of Labour and Employment, while Jumoke Oduwole was selected to serve as the Minister of Industry, and both were screened.
Oduwole said, “Perhaps what we now need to deliver is the convergence of these two pillars of monetary and fiscal policy, with trade, investment, and industrial policies, to further drive growth.”
Yusuf Ata was screened for the position of Minister of State for Housing and Urban Development, alongside Suwaiba Ahmad, who was nominated as Minister of State for Education.
Idi Maiha was also screened for the position of Minister for the newly established Livestock Development Ministry.
“We also want to know all the cattle routes. We also want to know all the dams that are viable. From there, we will develop those grazing reserves that have no legal inconveniences. The ministry intend to work with other critical stakeholders to make sure that this vision is realised,” Maiha stated.
