In a significant development in Nigerian politics, Mudashiru Obasa, a prominent grassroots politician, and All Progressives Congress (APC)  member, was impeached from his position as Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly over allegations of abuse of office and gross misconduct. 

Obasa who had held the position since 2015 marked another addition to the list of impeached Speakers in Nigeria since the country returned to democratic rule. 

Notably, Ondo state witnessed the removal of their Speakers thrice while five other states; Edo, Ekiti, Kebbi, Jigawa, and Kano witnessed the removal of their legislative heads twice.
