The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Kano Strategic Command, has arrested 19 suspects and recovered a variety of illicit substances during raids in the Gezawa community, the agency confirmed on Thursday.

Assistant Superintendent of Narcotics and NDLEA Kano Public Relations Officer, Sadiq Maigatari, disclosed that the operation targeted drug dens in the community as part of the command’s ongoing “Operation Ramadan Mubarak.” The crackdown was carried out under the leadership of CN DY Lawal.

“In a decisive operation aimed at protecting public health and preserving the sanctity of Ramadan, NDLEA operatives dismantled several drug joints, recovered a wide range of illicit substances, and arrested 19 suspects,” Maigatari said.

He added that the operation was prompted by credible intelligence from a concerned community member. “Acting on the information provided, operatives moved without delay to dislodge the criminal activity,” he said.

Recovered items include cannabis sativa, diazepam, Exol-5, the street drug known as “Suck and Die,” rubber solution, pregabalin tablets, and other assorted controlled substances. All exhibits are now in NDLEA custody as investigations continue.

CN DY Lawal stated, “Our objective is simple: to ensure that our streets are safe and that residents can observe a peaceful and satisfactory Ramadan. If some individuals are not mindful of their faith, health, and the safety of their neighbours, we will act to protect the wider community.”

Lawal further emphasised the importance of community cooperation in combating drug abuse and trafficking. “The operation aligns with the directive of the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of NDLEA, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (retd.), CON, who has ordered sustained, non-stop efforts to suffocate drug trafficking and abuse across Nigeria,” he said.

He urged residents to continue reporting suspicious activities to the Kano Strategic Command, noting that timely and accurate information is critical to safeguarding public health, protecting families, and maintaining safe neighbourhoods.

The NDLEA Kano Strategic Command reaffirmed its commitment to proactive enforcement, community partnership, and holding drug traffickers accountable in line with national efforts to curb substance abuse across the country.
