  • NIMC recently proposed a 3-in-1 card
  • The multipurpose card would be made available between July to August 2024
  • Nigerians expressed their frustrations with the commission and concerns about the new card

The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) proposed a three-in-one card which would be made available to citizens across the country between July and August this year.

This was disclosed by an official of the NIMC during an interview on Friday, June 21.

The multipurpose card would be equipped with payment capability for all types of social and financial services, among other functions, aside from being a means of identity.

To be eligible for the card, one must have the National Identification Number (NIN), among other stipulated requirements by the NIMC.

The news of the 3-in-1 card was supposed to generate excitement among Nigerians, considering its sophistication and the infusion of financial and technological services. However, the opposite was the reaction of those who reacted to the development.

Many expressed that they still could not access the previous cards they applied for. Others simply did not trust the government to safely carry out such a data-driven project.

Nigerians express doubts over 3-in-1 card

Reacting to the proposed multipurpose card, people on X (formerly Twitter) expressed their frustration with the commission over their NIN data while doubting the viability of the proposed multipurpose card.

“You people should release my Nin Ooooo...what kind of wickedness is that...I registered for Nin since over a year now and it's yet to come out I re-registered again this year January, till now it's not out...I'm tired, confused, angry I don't know what to do,” Bariga Freshest lamented on X.

“I still don't know why to edit date of birth and phone number should go up to N16k in a struggling economy of ours,” Adewale ‘Damilare tweeted.

“The bad thing, even if you pay and do everything they stated that one should do to correct his details online, they won't effect the change. I have paid, got the letter of attestation from NPC and also other documents..still no change,” Chizua expressed on X.

“I paid for Date of Birth modification for over 3 months now, still nothing is been done, I have sent as many mail as possible,DM  there social media, went to there office still no action. This people have deprived me of many things I should have done, they just made me stand still,”  Mr Oppy complained on X.

“I paid a total of N65,000 to correct my D.O.B that was erroneously inputted by your NIN agent. Why should people go through very difficult processes just to effect corrections on something as little as Date of Birth? What kind of humans are running our public institutions?” Divine Being questioned on X.

“This multipurpose card will cost more harm’s than good, if someone mistakenly has access to that card all your account will be wiped out and personal information are gone, let know what we’re doing in this country,” Temitope Daramola expressed on X.

“How could a national ID (with banking details) that needs be given to third party for verification  be safe....you're not thinking through,” Abu-Aliyah also tweeted.

“Stop lying”: Nigerians refuse to buy Tinubu’s ‘dobale’ excuse after public fall

TheRadar earlier reported that Nigerians refused to believe the reason given by President Bola Tinubu for his public fall at the Eagle Square in Abuja during the Democracy Day celebration.

Tinubu stated that he prostrated, a gesture known in Yoruba as ‘dobale’, to show that he was a Yoruba boy at heart.
