  • Malam Nasir El-Rufai has expressed fear that he could be arrested at any moment
  • He made the claims in an interview with BBC Hausa, where he openly criticised the current political climate
  • He also disclosed that four individuals who worked closely with him have already been arrested

The Former Governor of Kaduna State, Malam Nasir El-Rufai, has alleged that he may be arrested at any moment by the APC-led Federal Government.

Speaking during an interview with BBC Hausa on Wednesday, February 11, El-Rufai claimed that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) is exerting pressure on political figures to either defect to the party or remain loyal to it.

Now a leading figure in the opposition African Democratic Congress (ADC), El-Rufai has recently stepped up his criticism of President Bola Tinubu’s administration and the APC, the same party under which he served two terms as Kaduna State governor.

According to him, the political atmosphere has become increasingly tense, with alleged intimidation targeted at dissenting voices.

He further revealed that some of his former associates have already been taken into custody, suggesting that he could be next.

“Four people we worked with in Kaduna have been arrested; so it’s only a matter of time before they come for me too,” he stated.

El-Rufai’s comments come amid the arrest and ongoing trial of former Attorney-General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, adding to the growing political tension within the country’s leadership landscape.

El-Rufai blasts APC for poor leadership, lack of internal democracy

Meanwhile, TheRadar earlier reported that the former Kaduna governor, Nasir El-Rufai, criticised the APC for poor leadership and lack of internal democracy, stating party structures have collapsed. He urged opposition parties to unite ahead of the 2027 elections and called for stronger standards in candidate nominations to address governance challenges.

The presidency and APC leaders responded, with the former expressing disappointment and the latter urging internal dialogue over public criticism.
