Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has assured young people in the state of his administration’s continued commitment to youth empowerment as a catalyst for economic growth.
The governor gave the assurance on Friday when members of the youth wing of the All Progressives Congress paid him a courtesy visit at the Government House in Kano.
Speaking during the meeting, Yusuf emphasised that meaningful development cannot be achieved without the active participation of young people. He said his government remains determined to expand opportunities for youths and integrate them more fully into governance and leadership structures.
According to a statement issued by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Mustapha Muhammad, the governor described the current year as one dedicated to youth development across the state.
“That is why our administration keeps empowering youths and giving them opportunities through government appointments,” Yusuf said.
He disclosed that approximately 40 per cent of political appointments under his administration have been allocated to young people. These include strategic roles such as commissioners, directors-general and managing directors of key government agencies.
The governor noted that entrusting young people with leadership and decision-making responsibilities would not only build their capacity but also strengthen the state’s economy. He added that youth inclusion in governance is central to his administration’s long-term vision for sustainable growth and social stability.
Earlier in his remarks, the APC National Youth Leader, Mr Dayo Israel, commended the governor for supporting the hosting of the Youth Progressive Summit at the Kano Government House. He described Yusuf as a leader committed to youth-driven development and inclusive governance.
Israel also pledged the continued support of the party’s youth wing for the governor’s programmes and policies aimed at improving the welfare and prospects of young people in the state.
The visit underscored ongoing efforts by the state government to engage with youth stakeholders across party lines, as part of broader initiatives to promote unity, participation and economic advancement in Kano State.
