The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has issued a directive for married female Corps members posted away from their husbands to seek redeployment to a more suitable location.
The scheme announced this on X, formerly Twitter in a post published on Monday, August 26.
The post read, “ATTENTION ALL 2024 BATCH ”B” STREAM II MARRIED FEMALE PROSPECTIVE CORPS MEMBERS.
“All married female Prospective Corps members (PCM’s) who are deployed to States where their husbands are not domiciled should report to the nearest NYSC Orientation Camp for their State of Deployment to be changed.
“They are to report during the period of registration at the Orientation Camps with copies of their marital and other relevant documents as evidence. Once the change is made it will reflect on their dashboard for reprinting,” the post read.
About NYSC
Established on May 22, 1973, through Decree No. 24, the NYSC scheme was designed to foster reconstruction, reconciliation, and nation-building following the Nigerian Civil War. Its purpose, as outlined in the decree, is to promote unity and strengthen common bonds among Nigeria's youth.
To qualify, graduates must be under 30 years old at the time of their graduation. Those older than 30 are issued a Certificate of Exemption, which is equivalent to the NYSC Discharge Certificate. Completing the service year successfully results in a certificate of satisfactory participation for corps members.
The primary goal of the scheme is to foster a spirit of selfless service among Nigerian youths and to emphasise the need for unity and brotherhood among Nigerians, regardless of their cultural or social backgrounds.
