The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) announced on Friday, July 26, that they are hiring.
Second public hiring announcement in over a decade
The NNPC offers competitive salaries and generous benefits, making the organisation one of the most sought-after in Nigeria.
Nigerians have pointed out this is the second public hiring announcement in 11 years and the first in five years.
Another tactic to stop planned protest
However, this did not sit well with some Nigerians, who labelled it a "fake Twitter giveaway" and believed it was another tactic to discourage youths from protesting.
“You guys think you’re wise. The protest will still go ahead,” a user on Twitter stated.
Employment is usually through connection
It is also widely believed that securing a job in the government parastatal is impossible without connections to top statesmen in the country.
Another X user said, “The public doesn’t trust you. Read the comments. Many people think this post is just to fulfil all righteousness while you go ahead and hire based on political affiliations. Transparency doesn’t exist in your dictionary”.
