The Governor of Ondo State, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, on Wednesday, April, led a large-scale solidarity walk in Akure in support of President Bola Tinubu ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The walk, tagged “TinubuDatiwa Half a Million Walk 2027,” was organised by Kehinde Akinrotoye, a former Senior Special Assistant to the governor on Sports and Coordinator of the TinubuDatiwa Support Group. It drew a significant turnout of supporters of the All Progressives Congress (APC), including government officials, civil servants, artisans, and members of civil society.
Addressing participants at the Ondo State Sports Complex, Aiyedatiwa praised the initiative, describing it as both impressive and encouraging for the President’s re-election bid.
“This is a healthy initiative put together by one of the support groups here in Ondo State in support of the re-election of President Bola Tinubu.
It is one of the several activities being organised to mobilise grassroots support ahead of 2027,” he said.
The governor noted that the walk forms part of broader mobilisation efforts by various support groups across the state in preparation for the upcoming elections.
Declaring himself a “foremost patron” of the support groups, Aiyedatiwa said his presence at the event demonstrated his commitment and solidarity with the organisers.
He also expressed satisfaction with the large turnout, describing it as evidence of growing grassroots support.
He projected strong electoral backing for the President in the next election cycle.
“By the grace of God, come January 2027, Ondo State will deliver nothing less than one million votes for President Bola Tinubu.
“I am delighted by the massive turnout. People came out voluntarily in the early hours of the day, which also highlights the importance they attach to healthy living.
“Walking and exercise are essential for physical fitness, mental alertness and overall well-being.
“Akure is just a coordinating centre. The real work is at the grassroots, the units, wards and local governments.
“I have advised all coordinators to return to their respective areas and intensify mobilisation efforts,” he said.
Also speaking, the Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Mr Henry Omoyofunmi, said the turnout reflected growing support for the ruling party’s agenda.
“This shows the serious efforts being put in place by the state for the campaign and re-election of President Bola Tinubu,” he said.
In his remarks, Akinrotoye explained that the event was designed to mobilise support across all parts of the state.
“The essence of this walk is to mobilise support for our President across the 18 local governments and the three senatorial districts of Ondo State.
“This Half a Million Man Walk is a testament to the trust and confidence we have in President Bola Tinubu’s leadership and the Renewed Hope Agenda.
“We are committed to this journey, and together, we will succeed,” he said.
