The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has revealed that its key presidential hopefuls including, Peter Obi, Atiku Abubakar and Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, are aligning politically with the shared objective of preventing Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) from retaining power in the 2027 general elections.
The party made the disclosure while unveiling 1ADC, a new political movement designed to unite party members and supporters across various social groups, age brackets and political leanings ahead of the next presidential race.
The initiative reflects an early move by opposition leaders to consolidate forces around a single political platform as the battle for the 2027 presidency begins to take shape.
The National Coordinator of the 1ADC Movement, Lauretta Onochie, alongside former ADC National Chairman Ralphs Nwosu, announced the initiative during its official unveiling.
“We are here to inform the world, the state, our political leaders that we have come together to be united as one ADC,” Onochie said.
According to her, the new platform is intended to foster cooperation among supporters of Obi, Atiku and Amaechi, allowing them to work collectively against the APC in the upcoming elections.
“Because Nigerians are asking an important question as to if political parties can ever come together and unite, today we are here to say it is possible and we are taking that lead,” she added.
Onochie acknowledged that internal disagreements are inevitable within political movements but stressed that unity must remain the party’s priority.
“We will unite after primaries, we will heal the wounds and we will not encourage anti-party activities. We will reach the grassroots, we will reach the poor, the young and we will be a party for every one. We will be strong, disciplined and united,” Onochie assured.
She explained that the 1ADC movement was created to minimise internal conflicts among party leaders and aspirants while also mobilising Nigerians in preparation for the 2027 general election.
Former ADC National Chairman, Nwosu, said adopting the party as a coalition platform would allow Nigerians to reclaim political ownership of their country.
“We say we don’t want to continue complaining. It is not about who is the (National) Chairman (or National) Secretary.
“The leadership of the ADC has been very deliberate. They don’t want to stand on anybody’s face. They want the Nigerian citizens to take over the party,” Nwosu said.
He urged citizens to become more politically active to prevent the country from sliding into deeper crisis after the next election cycle.
Nwosu also described the party’s National Chairman, David Mark, as “a military tactician” who would not be intimidated by political pressure.
According to him, the ADC’s digital membership registration campaign has already attracted strong participation nationwide.
Nwosu added that the party now sees itself as a citizens-driven political platform rather than one dominated by career politicians, claiming that millions of Nigerians have registered through its online membership system within a few months.
