Popular socialite and entrepreneur Hauwa Saidu Mohammed, known as Jaruma, has faced social media criticism for alleging that Veekee James married her husband for content.
This is not the first time the entrepreneur has allegedly made a defamatory statement about a celebrity. In 2022, she was arrested by Senator Ned Nwoko for alleged defamation of character.
In an old exclusive podcast interview session of Society and Issues, which resurfaced on September 22, Jaruma noted that she didn't marry for love but because she wanted society to leave her alone.
Speaking on the topic, Money, Fame and Drugs, Jaruma said the pressure meant that she had to get married or rent a husband for content which was similar to what Celebrity fashion designer, Veekee James did.
In her words while speaking about her husband’s role during her struggle with drugs, she said, “My marriage wasn't for love. I just got married so that society can leave me. We lived for a little while. It’s more like what Veekee James is doing now, using her husband for content.
“You know you rent a husband or hire a husband so that you can use him for content on social media. That is like what Veekee James is doing now and that is what Jaruma has been doing for you guys since 2015.
“I didn't say she married him for content but that's what it looks like. You people call him Mr Veekee James. That she is the husband while he is the wife. Just what they said about me,” Jaruma said.
Jaruma’s statements about Veekee James didn't seem to go down well with netizens who have criticised her defamatory comments. According to them, Jaruma was only looking for a way to trend following her absence from social media for a while.
