Nigerian award-winning actress Kehinde Bankole has clarified that kissing or showing off nudity in films is not always needed to tell a good story.
The 39-year-old actress, notable for her exceptional performance in Funmilayo Ransome Kuti, noted that the part of nudity has to be intelligently required in a film.
In a recent YouTube podcast interview titled Duke Rants, trending on Tuesday, September 3, the actress was invited to the show to talk on drug abuse, mental health and the Nigerian entertainment scene.
During the interview, the host had asked if there is a limit to Bankole’s artistic show of nudity in a film project.
“The word to use is intelligent. There are sometimes you even see naked flesh and you're not thinking sensual because of the context within which you're watching it.” she responded.
Still insisting on knowing her take, the host further asked Bankole how far she could go to reveal her body in a film project.
“As far as it is intelligently required not just because it is required. Sometimes, you don't need nudity. You don't need so much kissing. You don't need all of that to tell a good story. If a couple has been married for 10 years, you don't need to open the scene by telling us they are doing one sexual thing or the other.”
The interviewer pressed on to ask if she could go nude intelligently in a film. “I don't like that question because the answer would always be taken out of context. Is it not the internet? I will say that I can do what is artistically required.” Bankole emphasised.
Kehinde Bankole made her acting debut during her reign as Lux ambassador in the family drama Super Story: Everything it Takes as Caro. She has gone on to feature in many Nollywood titles notably Adire, Sister and Funmilayo Ransome Kuti.
