- Toyin Abraham was a vocal supporter of President Bola Tinubu before he got to power
- However, the popular actress has been consistently trolled for her supporting her preferred candidate
- She has now allegedly arrested an influencer who bullied her online for her political affiliation
Popular Nollywood actress Toyin Abraham has allegedly arrested a social media influencer for cyberbullying and defamation.
The news of the arrest broke out on social media after someone posted that one influencer, YVRLO, had been arrested for about four days.
@_kathiiie posted: “Word on the street is that he has been used as scapegoat by Toyin Abraham. He has reportedly been arrested for over 4 days now and his mum is not even allowed to see him.”
It all started when the Nollywood actress and producer threw her weight behind the present president during his campaign for the 2023 presidential elections, this angered a lot of youths who didn’t take it well.
In February 2023, @toyin_abraham1 posted: “For the first time, I met the incoming president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and he shared some of his Ideas, Visions and Strategy to solve the challenges before us, as a Nation. Listening to him indeed renewed my hope and reaffirmed why he is my choice.”
Many Nigerians lashed out at the actress and trolled her for this post, questioning the actress about what the presidential candidate shared with her and why he didn’t share the same with Nigerians.
Fast-forward to this year, with Nigeria experiencing its worst economic crisis in decades, all-time high inflation, and currency devaluation, among other issues, which experts have attributed to President Bola Tinubu's policies. Netizens have revisited and reignited their trolling of Toyin Abraham, who supported the president during his electioneering.
It, however, became quite toxic when some people started laying curses on the actress and her family.
Toyin Abraham had replied to a netizen who asked her to divulge the plans the president shared with her, saying:
“You asked me in a polite way so I will definitely answer you, of course I was told and promised good governance and happiness for everyone and which I believe. If things didn’t go well why do I have to be the one to suffer for it because I remember I voted for Jonathan and I was bullied but I didn’t put blame on anyone after everyone chose buhari. So please why would they be cursing and trolling me everytime?”
Another person, @YVRLO_ replied in a now-deleted tweet, saying: “So na you dem promise good governance on behalf of Nigeria? Onijere Seh. Your son go Kpai soon.”
@Iam_philopearl also insulted the actress and called her names.
Many others join the bandwagon, trolling and cursing the actress and even making claims that she was paid by the president to support him.
Nigerians react to alleged influencer's arrest
Following news of the alleged arrest, some Nigerians have expressed their happiness at the action taken by the actress while others are begging for the release of the influencers.
Pleading for YVRLO’s release, @itzbasito posted: “Aunty @toyin_abraham1 please forgive @YVRLO_, we understand he overstepped and slandered your family, he’s definitely learned his lessons. Ejor e wo ti ikunle Abiyamo”
Another netizen, @Marylinbeckas posted: “U might nt like d stand Toyin Abraham took during d election, I don’t either. Dat doesn’t mean she must b bullied so much so dat some1 wil wish her son death, d only1 she av. He dared her & she reacted, why re y’all crying a river now? U pushed a mother &u expect her not2 react? Nah!”

@SirDavidBent posted: “I have never liked Toyin Abraham as a person, not her movies & not for her political choices, but many of you don't know how to bant. When banting someone, don't go emotional. Stick to the facts. It is extreme to bring her family into such issues. The Nigerian police will always be used as puppets of oppression, so you should understand the kind of country you're in. Being anonymous doesn't guarantee you can't be found, if they want to find you, they will.”
