Nollywood actor, Timini Egbuson has called out Nigerian musicians for not supporting the country’s film industry, despite actors frequently promoting their music.

Egbuson voiced his concerns in a post on X (formerly Twitter) on Saturday, February 15, saying musicians often collaborate with actors to promote their music but this support is not always reciprocated.

He stated:  "Really wish musicians supported Nollywood the way we support their music but that's a conversation for another day."

Egbuson's comment comes on the heels of the premiere of his latest movie, Reel Love, which debuted in cinemas on Friday, February 14.

The statement has since sparked debate online, with some fans questioning whether Nollywood truly needs musicians’ support. Responding to one such comment, Egbuson acknowledged that the film industry can thrive without it but expressed disappointment over the lack of reciprocity.

“Oh yes, for sure. It's just a shame,” he wrote.

@Yinkaobebe commemted: “Think of this from a size and mutual benefits POV. In the earlier stages it was support but now musicians have a clear structure. The story will change when sync and license patronage from Nollywood becomes a key revenue driver for the music industry in Nigeria.”
@LadyTSK commented: “Timini,Music is the universal language of the soul, everyone vibes to music Actors,Comedians etc. You can't do without music but they can do without films it is a thing of value, neccessity not support. If you had said this before you became a producer,i might read this differently.”
@morokkojames commented: “With all dix you tube movies and riddled Yoruba Netflix movies, how do U expect them to support you guys, everyone is an actor now in Nigeria, hard to differentiate a skit maker from an actor nowadays, Wen U guys are serious U don't even need to say anything to get support.”
@Miracle_Xchange commented: “The thing is, in the movie industry, Nollywood is so far behind nd not sub par to Hollywood so it’s not just about support. No matter how much u hype portable, at the end of the day he’s still portable. Meanwhile afrobeat music is really good, even better than some Yankee songs..”
@PatienceEniola2 commented: “Our Entertainment industry needs to do better, we should love and support each other, the music industry should see Nollywood as their co workers and friends, we should be of assistance to one another.”
@MichealHug97707 commented: “Timini! Back in D days. Our musicians used Nollywood actors in there music videos & a mini drama before D music begin in D video. Nollywood use artist songs in their movies wit permission or proper clearance & you're here to talk about support. NW need to fix up internally first.”
