  • The actress highlighted the contrast between the warm camaraderie among male actors and the rigidity among female actors
  • Bukunmi's comments sparked a lively debate, raising questions about the factors contributing to the apparent strain among female actors in Nollywood

Nollywood actress Bukunmi Oluwashina recently took to Instagram to share her candid observation about the relationship among female actors in the entertainment industry.

According to her, while male actors in Nollywood often display affection and team spirit, it is unclear how challenging it is for female actors to form close bonds.

Bukunmi questioned the source of the toxicity and strain in relationships among female actors, asking what the gain would be. Netizens who indulge celebrity feuds were not exempt from her criticism.

She posted: “.... I envy you. 💔 I envy these men. Just take a look at them. The way they contain each other, support each other, and grow together. Their collective growth is evident in how they acknowledge and cheer each other on, despite sharing the same goals.

“The joy I feel when I run into one of my fav actor's movies on my fav director's page. And how the actor sings the Director's praise in his absence, even though he is also a director.

“I pray I will witness this someday with my gender in this field. You people make loving genuinely like a very difficult thing. It cost nothing. Someone asked me "How do you think this person would feel for posting that person? You are supposed to post this Person first and then post that.

“This person won't like or drop a comment if you post that person" How did we get here?? And some fans from the pit of hell would be asking you too choose a side. Are we on a battlefield? “Okay, if we are, what are we fighting for? Crown? Money? Post? Nice one, which of them are we taking with us when we die? I am not even going to blame some bitter followers who act like they are not loved ay home.

“The energy they see is what they give. Let it be known that i am at peace with everyone and this heart has no limitation in love. I am not going to war with anyone for anyone unless they PERSONALLY give me a reason.

“Joy is no joy to me if its purpose is to make other people feel sad. And love is not love if it's not shared with those who don't deserve it.”

Her post has sparked a heated conversation among netizens, with many sharing their thoughts on Nollywood's female community dynamics. Some have praised Bukumi for her honesty, while others have called out celebrities who they claim to be guilty of this toxicity.

Some netizens, however, countered Bukunmi Oluwashina's observation, suggesting that the friendly bond among male actors in Nollywood may be superficial. In response, she took to social media to defend her stance, stating,

For those of you saying "yehn yehn yehn, the man are showing fake love, Atleast my fave doesn't show fake love." you are the cause of this problem. One thing i know is that, YOU CAN NOT SHOW WHAT YOU DONT HAVE" Even if a person is showing fake love, at least is a sign that they have love in them, Love is not something you have and you can contain or keep. Its meant to be shared.

“A love that is not shared with all only brings division and hate, Note, the human heart is capable of showing love to everybody, What it is not capable of is, showing everybody love the same way and on the same level.

“Which is why it's okay for anyone to have a fav, as long as you do not subconsciously encourage hate while loving them, And, an eye for an eye makes the whole world go blind, You can be the one to break that chain.

“I mean, showing love and support to a person who doesn't show you love in return, acknowledge you or support you, make you the bigger person, Because for fact, its a sign that you have something they don't have, in excess in fact.

“Plenty enough to go round to those deserving and none deserving, that is what Love is. The love we receive from the world is nothing, If we don't have enough in ourselves to give out collectively.”

Netizens react to controversy about female actors' strained relationship

Bukunmi Oluwashina's post struck a chord, triggering fans and followers to opt for a more nuanced conversation about the relationships between female actors in Nollywood.

TheRadar compiled some reactions below;

@specialbeautyboutique posted: “Thank you, about time someone talk about this... Wonen, what exactly is our problem? We all scream 'Women supporting women' everyday but when it really get to it, y'all don't want to see the other person win, I hope for a world where women Will genuinely root for each other cos we are all we have, the world is hard on us already, why are we making it extra hard for ourselves?”

@adelakuntufayl posted: “To all the responsible men out there who keep setting the good example for the world, I greet you specially!👏👏👏❤️❤️❤️❤️”

@aishalawal1 posted: “Hmmmmmm your post is thought-provoking and I hope we all learn and do better Thanks alot for this post”

@iamdaleajayi posted: “Very Thoughtful! Wumi T should read this. I see her taking sides most times. Even using bitter songs in her posts. I hope she becomes more mature so she can grow beyond now. Still, I love how she interprets her roles.”

@funny_451 posted: “funke is the one causing most of these...... SHE want the industry to worship her and the senseless amount them fear her because they believe if they worship funke her fan will like them too. Wumi is another problem with her lies and abosi. toyin too will not stay one place and respect herself, they all should learn from odun and Femi. I pity those who make them role model🙌🙌🙌

@olokograce posted: “Insane colleagues picking sides and acting like wild fucking animals, I used to love the Yoruba industry so muchh but not anymore, they're all bullies starting from the female legend.

But this not too new generation of the industry like Damilola Oni, Zainab, Seilat, Debby Shokoya etc always supporting each other. I kinda love it.

I'll always respect Muyiwa Ademola, Odun Adekola and Femi Adebayo, those are actually the real definition of role models”

@i_amrascololy posted: “Toyin even apologized to Funke Akindele publicly and called for mutual love, but she ignored her. She's now forming caucus with some actors.... What is that suppose to mean?”

@__oba_lucious posted: “Female actress are all alabosi reason why they allow fans to trigger their comparison... we've being seeing comparisons about the male actor but e no concern them coz they still hype each-other project”

@whoraolhar22 posted: “I hope they listen especially that four face called Wunmi ah I fear her....alabosi ni woman yen I hope she change her way sha”

@preciousjewel004 posted: “One of them put up a post earlier in the year. I believe her aim was to raise a healthy support for one another. What did she get in return? Disgrace, mock3ry and dragging.”

@riri_the_1st posted: “Some of your colleagues are snakes to be honest. Imagine picking sides and still making it obvious by throwing subtle shades nitori kini? Atije atimu? Toxic fans can only thrive where they sense toxicity, Someone put up a post of peace this year and not so many of your colleagues supported the post. She was dragged, humiliated and embarrassed that she had to bring down the post in shame. Even if there were some loopholes in the post, wasn't it obvious this person wanted peace? The other party also didn't make it easy. Tbh, some of your colleagues are vile!!! God will help everyone to sell out. I had plans of watching all of these movies and I'll do so by God's grace.”
