- Nigerian socialite Obi Cubana's adopted son, Chidi, claimed to be the billionaire’s next of kin in a now-deleted TikTok post
- In a bid for clarity, Obi Cubana reaffirmed that his biological son, Alex, holds that title
- The public response is divided, with some supporting the clarification and others critiquing its public nature
The family of Nigerian billionaire businessman Obinna Iyiegbu, popularly known as Obi Cubana, has been caught in a social media controversy following the revelation of sensitive information.
The controversy began when Obi Cubana’s adopted son, Chidi, released a video on TikTok, proclaiming himself to be the billionaire’s next of kin.
In the now-deleted clip, Chidi captioned, "Nothing do my shoulder I just realized I am the next of kin."
In a bid to clarify the situation, Obi Cubana took to his Instagram page @obi_cubana, sharing a photo alongside his biological son, Alex.
He explicitly stated that Alex is his rightful next of kin, seeking to resolve the confusion that had emerged online.
His caption read,
“Ancient and Modern, eyes on the ball! @dtwalx aka Next-of-kin!”
This public declaration has sparked mixed reactions across social media platforms. While many users supported Obi Cubana’s decision to address the misinformation, others felt that the matter should have been handled privately.
Critics argued that the public explanation was unnecessary and that family issues should remain within the family, and the boy was only indulging in a TikTok trend.
Reactions trail Obi Cubana's post

He's always being called "the adopted son" or "next of kin" some even joke "next of kin don dey dance." He's a young boy, for God's sake. Is it a crime to be adopted? Why's everyone so triggered? This was clearly harmless, Nigerians, Igbo people there are better ways to handle this than all this unnecessary noise. The boy didn't create the narrative he just leaned into a joke people were already making, using a trending sound, nothing serious. It's not like he came online claiming inheritance. He calls his sibling next of kin too common nau.”

Take am easy ooo. All the 5 boys no fit finish your wealth. This one wey you do, no good at all.
