- A Nigerian blog claimed Nigerian artiste Spyro said he experienced a career setback after featuring with Davido and Mayorkun in a viral song, Funke
- In response to this, the Who's Your Guy crooner denied the claims and demanded that the blog take it down, warning of consequences if they don't comply
- In a twist of events, social media users posted a video appearing to show Spyro discussing a career setback, reigniting the debate and leaving fans wondering about the truth behind the claims
Afrobeat artiste Spyro has publicly addressed alleged misinformation spread by the popular blog account @Naija_PR, which he claims misquoted him following an interview with HipTV.
During the interview, Spyro candidly shared his experience collaborating with prominent artistes like Davido and Mayorkun, revealing how these opportunities didn’t lead to the breakthrough he anticipated.
“I had a song back then, and I had Davido and Mayorkun on it. I thought my life was about to change. The song came out and it was big, and all of a sudden I went back down,” he explained, highlighting the unexpected shift in his career trajectory after their collaboration in 2018 on the remix of Funke.
Spyro reflected on his emotional struggles, stating,
“I sat down and thought about it because how do you go from working with Davido, vibing with Mayorkun and all those guys, and all of a sudden, they do not even pick up your calls anymore?”
However, the blog @Naija_PR posted,
"My Career experienced a setback after I featured Davido and Mayorkun -- Spyro."
This prompted an immediate response from the artiste, who declared,
“This is false!!! I never said anything like this, I give you 24hours to take this down or be prepared to face the consequences.”
The controversy quickly gained traction on social media, with many users weighing in on the situation.
Some netizens posted videos of Spyro acknowledging his professional challenges, stating Davido and Mayorkun didn't pick his calls after their collaboration adding fuel to the debate.
Amid the varied reactions, some netizens defended the blog’s post as a misunderstanding of Spyro's original message, while others expressed scepticism about the situation.
