One cannot deny that Kannywood, though more specific to the northern region of the country, holds a significant impact both culturally and economically. 

The industry serves as a platform for the promotion of the Hausa culture, traditions and language through its indigenous films and art. 

However, having nurtured a wealth of talents over the years, the industry has produced some notable actors who are now big names in the Nigerian film industry, Nollywood. 

TheRadar compiled a list in no particular order of the Top 5 Kannywood actors who are also popular in Nollywood. It is a celebration of their exceptional performances and contribution to the Nigerian film industry. 

  • Ali Nuhu 

The actor often regarded as the ‘King of Kannywood’ has become a household name in Nollywood too. With an acting career of over 2 decades, Ali Nuhu, who is an actor, scriptwriter, producer and director, has starred in over 500 films both in Hausa and English films. With a total Instagram followers of 3 million, he is arguably considered the most-followed Kannywood actor in Nigeria. 

  • Rahma Sadau 

Recognised for her bold and diverse roles, Rahma is a pioneering actress in the Kannywood industry. The actress has successfully transitioned into Nollywood to give the same outstanding performances she is known for. Some of her popular titles include: Postcards, Upnorth, Chief Daddy 2, and Sons of the Caliphate. 

  • Adam Zango 

This is another versatile actor that has proven to represent Kannywood and Nollywood exceptionally well. His acting skills have also made him a prominent name in today’s Nollywood landscape. 

  • Uzee Usman

The Kannywood actor and filmmaker is known for his acting appearances in Voiceless, Mustapha, Anikulapo, Oga Abuja and A Tribe Called Judah. His stellar ability to combine Kannywood and Nollywood has won him several notable awards. Usman began his career as a Make Up artist in 2003 but in 2013, he delved into filmmaking and acting, the rest is history. 

  • Sanni Musa Abdullahi 

Also known as Sanni Danja, he has been relevant in Kannywood for many years. The actor is multifaceted also wearing the hats of a director, producer and singer. His works have also been recognised in the Nollywood industry.
