- A fan had jumped on stage and the singer left immediately after the incident
- Burna Boy later explained his reasons for walking off stage during the concert
Famous Nigerian singer Damini Ogulu Burna Boy seems to be trending in the news since the past weeks and mostly for the wrong reasons.
Netizens recently criticised him for walking off stage during a recent performance at the Greater Lagos Countdown concert in Lagos.
A viral video captured when an overly excited fan jumped on stage during Burna Boy’s performance. After the bouncers salvaged the situation, Burna Boy abruptly left the stage.
In a post via his Instagram Story, on Wednesday, January 1, the Afrofusion singer finally addressed the backlash that have trailed his actions and shared the reason for his action.
Why Burna Boy walked off stage
Burna Boy explained that he had PTSD and it gets worse when triggered by being startled on stage, which according to him, was what happened when the fan attempted to grab him.
“It was a free show. I was supposed to do 10 mins and did almost an hour. Everybody knows my rule about getting on stage and startling me when I’m performing,
“I had an amazing time with Lagos State last night. Don’t jump on my stage like that! I got PTSD. I love you all. Happy New Year,” he wrote.
The singer urged fans to respect his boundaries and further recognised their love and support for his artistry.
Meanwhile, PTSD which means Post-traumatic Stress Disorder, is a mental health experience caused by extremely terrifying events. The symptoms include flashbacks, nightmares amongst others.
