Nigerian bread seller-turned-model Olajumoke Orisaguna, famously known as Olajumoke Onibread, has narrated how she fell out of fame because of a contract she ignorantly signed.

In 2016, Olajumoke’s story inspired millions after she inadvertently walked into a photo shoot with British rapper Tinie Tempah. The shot was captured by TY Bello.

In a recent edition of the Honest Bunch Podcast, on Monday, December 9, Olajumoke opened up about her struggles during her three-year hiatus.

Speaking on ‘The Double Edge Sword of Fame,’ she went into detail on how she met her previous manager, who later lured her into signing a contract that changed her life negatively.

Aunty Azuka called me to tell me that she had one job, and then I met one woman there, Victoria Ekong. She told me that she wants me to host an event with Denrele at Lekki. Aunty Azuka wanted to travel abroad at the time, so she handed me over to Victoria. Aunty Azuka didn't go with us to the event.

“After the event, Victoria told me that I can make more money than all this small small money. She told me that all the money Aunty Azuka used to collect for me is too small.

“I didn't say anything. She said she could manage me and would take me abroad and all over Nigeria, collecting big jobs for me.

“That was how she deceived me. When I got home, I told the father of my kids and he agreed. We fixed an appointment to meet with Victoria and our lawyer. She asked me to sign a document before I could work with her.

“I gave the document to the lawyer because I didn't know what was written in the document. The lawyer said what is there is okay. I signed. I didn't know what I signed would affect me negatively,” Olajumoke narrated.

According to Olajumoke, she didn't make any money from all the money Aunty Azuka and TY Bello helped her save while working with Victoria.

She will use me for jobs but no income. When I realised that it wasn't worth it. After our two-year contract, I told her I would not be working with her,” she said.

Jumoke further revealed that after their fallout, she tried to get her Instagram password from Victoria, but all to no avail. This led her to start another page from scratch. “This was why I was absent on social media for about three years,” she noted.

From N1000 to N1 million

Reflecting on the difference in her income when she became famous, Olajumoke said the experience was different.

During my days at the bakery, I make an average of N1000 a day working from morning to evening. By the time things turned around, I was so happy because it was an unexpected blessing.

“I got my first job as a Brand Ambassador for Pay Pot. I was paid a huge amount, and I couldn't get the figure. It was one million. I was amazed. I had one million in my account. I had only heard about such money. I have never seen or touched it,” she expressed.

When asked if the brands that came to her at the time wanted to exploit her, she explained that those who helped her back then were made people.

According to her, they only helped her in their own ways and not that they wanted to exploit her.
