- Housemates in the ongoing Big Brother Naija “No Loose Guard” edition lost their fifth weekly wager
- Big Brother commended Chizoba for her Chekas app idea which helps children learn at their own pace and Tjay for his Labalaba product which helps eradicate diseases
- Biggie also condemned the Buy Afrik app idea for not solving a problem and the Cura app idea for not offering concrete solutions to mental health illnesses
The Big Brother Naija Season 9 “No Loose Guard” housemates have lost their fifth weekly wager.
The theme for the week was African Business and Innovation and housemates were required to develop ideas that could advance African business and innovation. They were to create a minimum of three unique trendsetting business ideas and three technological products that can promote Africa. They were required to create a prototype for their products. Their technology must solve product solves the problem.
The housemates delivered their wager presentation in the arena on Friday, August 30.
The housemates presented five Tech products; An AI-powered fashion app called Buy Afrik, a drone called Labalaba which drops pods that prevent diseases like Malaria, Cholera and the like, a special child education app called Chekas, a water purifier, and a mental health solutions app called Cura.
They also had some housemates play the role of investors who chose to invest in all the ideas except Sooj’s water purifier idea.
When the time came for Big Brother to deliver the verdict of their wager presentation, he commended the ideas of some housemates and condemned others.
He said: “The Chekas app is a beautiful idea because it addresses a problem that African parents are acutely aware of. Which means children will no longer be called dull, instead they will be taught at a pace they can learn. Chizoba, well done.
“The Labalaba is another brilliant idea that solves health challenges across West Africa. It was quite refreshing to see a product that tackles the root cause of malaria rather than treating the patient. Tjay, well done.
“Buy Afrik, Africa has never wanted for a thrift store or market. Here in Nigeria, everyone is familiar with Okrika markets where people gather to select their favourite pre-owned products. There are also numerous logistics companies catering for the needs of Africans across the continent, maybe you should have thought of ways to destigmatise the use of pre-owned products instead.
“The Cura app is a good idea, however, the solutions it proffers are lacklustre. Words of affirmation cannot solve every mental problem.
Your investors should have asked more questions about your products. Your hosts should have memorised their lines and you should have dealt in an African currency.
“Housemates, your presentation is hollow in the face of scrutiny, you have lost your wager.”
The housemates had earlier wagered 80 per cent of their shopping allowance for the week.
