The comedian, who is also an actor and musician, made the post on his official Instagram page on July 16, highlighting biblical examples men should consider.
Via his Instagram story, Basketmouth compared notable Bible characters who had one wife but later betrayed God. On the other hand, the ones with multiple wives were more steadfast in their faith.
He wrote, “According to the Holy Bible, Ahab-1 wife, Herod -1 wife, Ananias -1 wife, Pontius Pilate - 1 wife, Jeroboam -1 wife, Nebuchadnezzar - 1 wife, Haaman - 1 wife, Zakayo - 1 wife and they all lost their way and betrayed God.
Abraham-3 wives, Jacob - 4 wive, David -4 wives, Solomon- 700 wives and 300 concubines, Rehoboam- 18 wives, Abijah - 14 wives, Elkanah - 2 wives, Lemech - 2 wives and they all found favour in the eyes of the Lord.”
However, Baskmouth clarified that it is not in his place to tell people how to process the content of his post.
“Whatever you do with this information is none of my business. However you want to interpret it, it's your cup of tea, I will be in the comment section.” he said.
Netizens criticise Basketmouth’s controversial post
Following his post, many social media users have criticised 45-year-old Basketmouth over his post.
Many suggested that the post is an advocacy and irrelevant excuse for polygamy. According to some, it suggests why his marriage with Elsie Okpocha ended, amongst other things.
