  • The singer further criticised artistes who choose arrogance, noting that most times, it is a disguise for their deficiencies.

Nigerian singer and activist, Oluwaseun Anikulapo Kuti, popularly known as Seun Kuti, has hailed the respectful nature of Fireboy DML and criticised colleagues who are not.

Seun Kuti, who is the youngest son of Afrobeat pioneer Fela, recently featured as a guest artiste on a track on Fireboy’s eponymous album, Adedamola

Explaining how he linked up with the Jealous crooner, in a recent edition of Zero Conditions Podcast, on September 2, Seun Kuti commended the character and personality of Fireboy as an artiste.

He called me up and told me that he wanted to come and see me. I thought he wanted to come and give me money. So, I quickly sent my address but when he came in, he had work not money.

For me, that was nice and I respect the fact that he didn't want to say it over the phone. One thing about Damola is that he is really really respectful. You know that is one thing I like about true talent, right?”

Elaborating his opinion on the relationship between respect and the talent of an artiste, Seun criticised artiste who choose arrogance.

According to him, most of them use their arrogance as a disguise to cover the fact that they are not as talented as people think they are.

Any artiste that snubs is because they are not talented. They are hiding their deficiencies and insecurities behind arrogance. When you meet an artiste that is arrogant because there is nothing. If you near am well well, you go see say its empty.

One of the traits of really talented artistes famous or not famous, is that they are open. You can always be around them. They are welcoming and respectful to people. There is no show-off of ego. Fireboy wasn't like that he was the same person with his crew and that's how you know the man is really talented.” Seun explained.

Meanwhile, in a recent interview, Fireboy also revealed why he chose Seun Kuti for their feature on Ecstasy off Adedamola album.

I realized I needed someone with so much knowledge and depth in music who could also play the sax. For some reason, Seun Kuti came to mind” he said.
