Notable music video directors have over the years transitioned into film direction, exploring their directorial skills in popular film titles.

5 Nigerian music directors who have directed film 

  • Kemi Adetiba

Kemi Adetiba is a veteran in advertising and the broadcast industry. She started out as a presenter at Rhythm FM and today, is a reputable director in the Nigerian film industry. She has also won the hat of a music video director with her project on Darling by Tiwa Savage, Anifowoshe by Olamide, Onye by Waje and Lagos Party by Banky W. For Nollywood titles, Kemi Adetiba has proved her filmmaking prowess with grossing titles like The Wedding Party and King of Boys. 



  • Tchidi Chikere

Tchidi started his creative career in the university where he wrote movie scripts. Active as both a music director and film director, Tchidi Chikere has worked on several projects. He has directed music videos like Kcee’s Agbomma and a music album, Slaps and Kisses. His directed movies include Blood Sisters, Gold Not Silver, Dumebi, Paint My Life and Pink Room.

  • Clarence Peters

Popular music director Clarence Peters aims to make his debut attempt at a feature film, Inside Life, from being a music video director. The upcoming TV series will premiere on Netflix on October 11. The series is a supernatural drama about the lives of Nigerians living in an unpredictable country. Clarence Peters music video direction portfolio have worked on 9ice’s Street Credibility, Omawunmi’s In The Music, Tuface’s Only Me and Bracket’s Yori Yori. 

  • Meji Alabi 

Meji Alabi is known for his stunning music video direction for popular artistes like Wizkid, Maleek Berry, Tiwa Savage, Asa, Burna Boy, Runtown, Seyi Shay and many others. He is known for his ability to bridge the gap between African and Western markets through visual mediums of music and photography. In 2020, he worked with Beyonce on her Black is King video project. Recently, Meji Alabi tried his hands on film direction with Tiwa Savage’s acting debut film, Water and Garri. 

  • Zina Saro-Wiwa 

Zina Saro-Wiwa is a popular filmmaker is known as the daughter of late Ken Saro-Wiwa, the poet and human rights activist. Zina as a director, combines both film and music video directions. She has directed Nigerian films like Phylis, For Mourning Class and The Deliverance of Comfort. For music videos, she has directed Dindi, a music video by Alissa Sanders.
