A new month means new movie dates, and what better way is there than to settle for a great movie? 

September brings a bounty of exceptional titles after August’s outstanding epics like Bolanle Austen Peters’ House of Gaa, to Daniel Oriah’s subtle horror thriller, The Weekend, and Kayode Kasum’s Something Like Gold, September has a lot more in stock. 

For September, promising Nollywood blockbusters such as Lisabi: The Uprising, The Farmer’s Bride and Queen Lateefah will all arrive on September 27. 

Also, the Nollywood acclaimed director, Adeoluwa Owu, is said to debut two new titles for the viewing pleasure of movie lovers across cinemas and streaming platforms.

Nollywood titles dropping in September 2024

  • Lisabi: The Uprising - September 27 

Following the success of Nigerian epics and biopics like House of Gaa, Funmilayo Ransome Kuti, and Jagun Jagun, to mention a few, Lisabi: The Uprising is probably the most highly anticipated film in September. 

Lateef Adedimeji's two-part film will debut on Netflix on September 27, followed by a sequel slated for release in January 2025. 

Lisabi: The Uprising documents the biography of a famous Egba farmer who ignited a rebellion against the oppressive Oyo Empire. His defiance led to the defeat of 6,000 Oyo soldiers to secure Egba’s independence. It features star-studded appearances from popular faces in Nollywood. Faces like Ibrahim Chatta, Femi Adebayo and Odunlade Adekola.

  • Farmer’s Bride - September 27 

Told against the backdrop of the 1980s in Ibadan, the Nollywood title Farmer’s Bride tells the tale of a wealthy and lonely farmer who marries a young bride. The inciting incident kicks off when she embarks on an abominable secret affair with the farmer’s nephew. Directed by Adebayo Tijani and Jack’enneth Opukeme, it stars Femi Branch, Tobi Bakre, Mercy Aigbe, Efe Irele and Wumi Toriola. It will hit the cinemas on September 27. 

  • Queen Lateefah - September 27 

Queen Lateefah, a movie by Nollywood actress and producer Wunmi Toriola, explores the themes of secrets and lies. The film is directed by Adeoluwa Owu and boasts Nollywood's big names such as Nancy Isime, Kunle Remi, Femi Adebayo, Lateef Adedimeji, Elvina Ibru, Broda Shaggi, Kiekie, Gbugbemi Ejeye, and Enioluwa. It will be shown in cinemas.

  • When Love Strikes - September 13 

The film, When Love Strikes by Adeoluwa Oni is a football-inspired drama dropping on September 13. It captures the story of a rising star in Remo Stars Football club. He has dreams of going abroad but has to decide to chase his passion for football or focus on his studies. Starring Zubby Michael, Chuks Joseph, Bimbo Akintola, Osas Ighodaro and Demola Adedoyin. It will grace the cinema screens. 

  • Ajaga (The Yoke) - September 6 

Ajaga is a faith-based Nollywood film that will be released in cinemas on September 6, 2024. It reveals the shocking truths hidden beneath the surface of modern-day church leadership. The film explores the themes of manipulation, abuse and exploitation. Directed by Remi Ibiniola, it stars Femi Jacobs, Tope Olowoniyan, Carol King, Jaiye Kuti, Tomiwa Sage and Lola Smart. 

  • Life and Dirt - September 1

Life and Dirt is a crime thriller by Nigerian comedian and actor Bovi Ugboma. The film, directed by James Alabi, follows two men who plot a get-rich-quick scheme but encounter challenges in its execution. Chidi Mokeme, Bovi Ugboma, Shaffy Bello, Idia Aisen, Uzor Arukwe, and Kanayo O. Kanayo make acting appearances. It is streaming on Prime Video. 

Lateef Adedimeji set to release Netflix original biopic, ‘Lisabi’ [PHOTOS] 

TheRadar earlier reported that exploring the escapades of a historic Egba warrior, Nigerian actor and filmmaker Lateef Adedimeji is set to release his anticipated film, Lisabi: The Uprising, on September 27. 

The biopic film, with over 2000 cast members, is said to be a means of cultural preservation and history, particularly to the Egba people of Abeokuta.
