Via his YouTube channel, on Thursday, December 19, Adekunle Gold reminisced on how Sade came to him and surprisingly became his greatest breakout song as a cover of One Direction’s Story of My Life.
“I was returning from work one evening. I was working as a brand developer and social media manager of a company in 2013. I was driving and listening to the radio in Lagos traffic and this song came on, One Direction’s Story of My Life.
“I thought it was beautiful and there was a space for instrumentals where I just started freestyling. I thought it was a good melody. I put out my phone and recorded it and left it there. Then, I was going to make an EP that will be about stories of my life. I wanted to be sincere.
“I've always believed that artistes need to just tell stories and say something that is sincere to you. Safe is the story of my life. I make music about myself or a story that somebody told me. I think it is the sincerity that is working for me, “ Gold narrated his journey to discovering Sade.
