Real Madrid star forward Kylian Mbappé has revealed his career trajectory could have taken a very different turn had his much-anticipated move to Real Madrid not materialised.
The French superstar, long touted as the next player to dominate the Ballon d’Or awards for years to come, made headlines by joining Real Madrid in the last transfer window, ending years of speculation linking him to Liverpool.
The 25-year-old striker admitted that Liverpool was never truly an option for him despite widespread rumours. Speaking to the press, Mbappé said that had the Real Madrid deal fallen through, he would have stayed at Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) indefinitely.
“I have always said that [PSG] was the biggest club in France and one of the best in the world, I only left to go to the biggest club in the world. If I couldn’t have gone to Real Madrid, I would have stayed at PSG my whole life,” Mbappé explained.
He reflected fondly on his time in Paris, emphasising the honour of representing the Ligue 1 giants,
“I was always aware of where I was and of how big a club PSG was,” he added.
While Mbappé’s Real Madrid chapter has started with mixed and inconsistent flashes of brilliance, including a missed penalty at Anfield, the French forward’s recent goal in Real Madrid’s Intercontinental Cup final victory suggests he is most likely finding his footing already. As he adjusts to life with the European champions, Mbappé remains an important figure in world football’s biggest narratives.
Premier League side Liverpool, on the other hand, continue to seek reinforcements to bolster their midfield, with reports suggesting a potential interest in Real Madrid’s Aurélien Tchouaméni. However, the likelihood of such a move materialising appears slim, especially given Liverpool’s history of limited dealings with Los Blancos.
Mbappé, who is on a five-year contract with Real Madrid, appears fully committed to his new journey. However, with his immense talent and ambition, questions linger about whether a future stint in the Premier League might eventually entice him. For now, the French captain has his eyes set firmly on triumphs in Madrid.
