Troost-Ekong confirms the club Osimhen supports, says it’s in England

Nigeria’s prolific forward Victor Osimhen has been a global headline-maker in 2024, impressing with goals and fueling transfer buzz. 

From his goal-scoring exploits to his potential transfers, the 25-year-old remains one of the most sought-after forwards in football. His recent stint with Turkish giants Galatasaray has only added to his allure.

According to Super Eagles captain William Troost-Ekong, Osimhen has long been a fan of Chelsea. Speaking in an interview, Troost-Ekong confirmed the striker’s admiration for the London club, 

“I can tell you he’s a Chelsea fan, I can confirm that.” This revelation comes amidst persistent rumours linking Osimhen with a move to Stamford Bridge.

Currently, on loan from Napoli, Osimhen has become a fan favourite in Istanbul despite facing injury challenges. In just 13 appearances for Galatasaray, he has scored 10 goals and provided five assists, making him one of Europe’s deadliest strikers. 

Despite his temporary stay in Turkey, his influence has been immense. Troost-Ekong further lauded his teammate’s work ethic, describing him as a player who “always plays like it’s his last game.”

Osimhen’s journey with the Super Eagles began in 2019 as an understudy to Odion Ighalo. However, his meteoric rise in Nigerian football has been nothing short of spectacular. Troost-Ekong also spoke highly of his leadership qualities, 

“He’s someone who speaks up for the team in the changing room, he’s a real leader, and I’m sure he’ll be captain soon.”

While Galatasaray would love to keep their star forward, financial constraints make a permanent deal unlikely. Speculation over Osimhen’s next destination remains uncertain, with PSG and Chelsea at the forefront of potential suitors. Arsenal and Manchester United have also been mentioned, but it seems the striker’s heart lies with the Blues.

The 25-year-old’s next move could define his career. Though Osimhen has ruled out activating a break clause to leave Galatasaray mid-season, he’s likely to move to a bigger stage next summer. Whether that stage is Stamford Bridge or elsewhere remains to be seen.
