  • At 15, Alphonso Davies became the youngest player in MLS history with the Vancouver Whitecaps
  • Now 23, Davies is already considered one of the best left-backs in the world, with his career still on the rise
  • Aside from Spanish side Real Marid, Premier League club Manchester United is also vying for his signature, alongside Leroy Sané and Leon Goretzka

Canadian star Alphonso Davies' journey from a refugee camp in Ghana to the heights of European football is nothing short of extraordinary.

He was born in the Buduburam camp where his family had fled the civil war in Liberia, Davies' early life was a daily struggle for survival. Clean water and food were scarce, and every day was a battle.

“It was hard to live because the only way you survive sometimes is you have to carry guns. We didn't have any interest in shooting guns, so we decided to just escape from there,” his father Debeah recalls.

That decision ultimately brought the Davies family to Canada, where Alphonso’s football journey began. Settling in Edmonton, Alberta, at age five, Davies took on responsibilities well beyond his years, helping care for his younger siblings while his parents worked long hours just to survive.

Football became his breath of fresh air, and his talent quickly caught the attention of scouts. Not long after Alphonso joined the Vancouver Whitecaps at just 15, becoming the youngest player in MLS (Major League Soccer) history.

It wasn’t long before Bayern Munich took notice. In 2019, the German giants secured his signature for a steal €10 million, a fee that has since been dwarfed by his current market value. The transfer proved to be a masterstroke, with Davies helping Bayern to multiple Bundesliga titles and a UEFA Champions League trophy.

At just 23 years old, and having already amassed an impressive list of achievements, major European clubs like Real Madrid and Manchester United are now circling.

His contract with Bayern expires in August 2025, and rumours suggest that Real Madrid, in particular, is preparing a very lucrative offer to lure him away on a free transfer and quite predictably, the player is reportedly keen on the move.

Manchester United is also in the mix, having already signed Matthijs de Ligt and Noussair Mazraoui from Bayern Munich, they are also reportedly eyeing Leroy Sané and Leon Goretzka. As for Davies, his future may lie beyond Munich, with Real Madrid looking like his most likely destination.

Super Eagles-eligible Olise scores stunning debut goal for Bayern, impresses fans

Previously, TheRadar reported that Michael Olise's move from Crystal Palace to Bayern Munich was one of the most talked-about transfers of the summer, and it didn’t take long for the 22-year-old to make his mark.

Just 12 minutes into his first start for the German giants, Olise found the back of the net in a friendly against Swiss side Grasshopper Club Zurich, showcasing the talent that former Crystal Palace forward Clinton Morrison believes will shine brightly in Munich.
