- President Tinubu inaugurated Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas as the sole administrator of Rivers State after declaring a state of emergency
- The ceremony was attended by top officials, including Chief of Staff Gbajabiamila and Attorney General Fagbemi
- Ibas’ appointment followed the suspension of Governor Fubara, Deputy Governor Odu, and the entire Rivers State House of Assembly
President Bola Tinubu has inaugurated Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (retd.) as the sole administrator of Rivers State, following his declaration of a state of emergency.
The ceremony, held at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, was attended by top government officials, including Chief of Staff Femi Gbajabiamila, Attorney General of the Federation Lateef Fagbemi, and Presidential Principal Secretary Hakeem Muri-Okunola.
Tinubu’s decision to install an administrator comes after he suspended Governor Siminalayi Fubara, Deputy Governor Ngozi Odu, and the entire state House of Assembly for an initial six-month period.
The crisis in the state has been simmering for months, driven by a fierce political battle between Fubara and his predecessor, Nyesom Wike, who now serves as Minister of the Federal Capital Territory.
The rift deepened when 27 state lawmakers defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC), further destabilising governance in the resource-rich state.
Fubara confident of Rivers people’s support
Earlier, TheRadar reported that now-suspended governor of Rivers State, Siminalayi Fubara, expressed his delight in the overwhelming support from the people of the state for his administration, particularly highlighting the successful revitalisation of the Rumuodomaya Fire Service Substation in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area.
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony on Friday, March 7, Governor Fubara emphasised that the newly upgraded fire station would now offer more efficient services, enabling a quicker response to fire emergencies. This, he said, would ensure the safety of lives and property for residents of Rumuodomaya, Obio/Akpor, and the surrounding communities.
