Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has praised President Bola Tinubu and the Federal Executive Council for approving Phase 1A of the Lagos Green Line Rail Project, describing the decision as a major boost for transportation in the state.
In a post shared on his official X account on Friday, May 1, Sanwo-Olu expressed appreciation to the President and the Federal Executive Council for giving the project the green light.
“On behalf of the Government and people of Lagos State, I express my sincere gratitude to His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Federal Executive Council for the approval of Phase 1A of the Lagos Green Line Rail Project,” the governor wrote.
He described the approval as “a significant milestone” in the state’s effort to improve urban mobility and expand public transport infrastructure.
According to Sanwo-Olu, the Green Line will stretch about 68 kilometres from Marina to the Lekki Free Trade Zone, with roughly 17 stations located across major areas such as Victoria Island, Ajah and the Lekki corridor.
He said the rail system is expected to serve up to 500,000 passengers daily at the start of operations, with capacity projected to rise to one million passengers over time.
The governor added that the line will be capable of moving up to 35,000 passengers per hour in each direction, a development he said will significantly reduce travel time and ease pressure on Lagos roads.
“This project reflects our commitment to improving mobility, supporting economic growth, and enhancing the quality of life for Lagosians,” Sanwo-Olu stated.
He also acknowledged the role of the Federal Government in moving the project forward, noting that Lagos remains committed to delivering a modern transport system that meets the needs of its growing population.

Meanwhile, TheRadar earlier reported that the Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has approved a N50,000 wage award for public sector workers in the state as part of efforts to ease the impact of rising living costs.
The governor, who was represented by his deputy, Obafemi Hamzat, said the wage support would apply for the month of May.
Governor Sanwo-Olu cited the rising fuel prices and economic pressures as the reason for the wage award.
