Fire at Aleshinloye market follows similar blaze in February
However, due to logistical concerns, Akinyinka added that the Fire Service could not answer individual inquiries at this time.
The fire followed a similar incident in February when another blaze damaged multiple shops at Oka-Asamu Market in Oyo East Local Government Area.
The February fire, which occurred around 2 a.m. on February 18, was traced to a high-voltage electricity surge that occurred when power was restored.
“According to the fire investigation conducted, eyewitnesses stated that the fire incident was caused by a high voltage electricity surge when power supply was restored,” Akinyinka stated while confirming the incident.
It destroyed goods and properties worth thousands of naira, but quick action by the Oyo State Fire Service prevented it from spreading further.
The February fire affected eight out of 18 rows of shops, and firefighters managed to save properties worth billions of Naira.
According to the Fire Service, the swift response helped limit the damage, and the firefighters returned to their station at 6:51 a.m. after ensuring the fire was completely contained.
