The Lagos State Government has announced traffic diversions and partial road closures across major parts of the state ahead of key project commissioning events scheduled for Wednesday, April 8, and Thursday, April 9.
In a statement released on Tuesday, April 7, the Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, explained that the measures are aimed at ensuring safety and the smooth execution of the ceremonies.
Motorists have been urged to plan their journeys carefully and avoid affected routes during the specified hours to minimise delays and traffic congestion.
According to the statement, the commissioning of the Opebi-Mende Link Bridge will take place on Wednesday, April 8, from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. This event is expected to impact traffic around Opebi-Allen, Ikeja, and Ojota.
“All motorists transiting this corridor during the specified hours should seek alternative routes to avoid congestion and ensure timely arrival at their destinations,” the statement said.
On Thursday, April 9, two separate commissioning events are scheduled between 9:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. The first is the unveiling of the Tolu Schools Complex, which will affect traffic flow in Olodi Apapa and Ajegunle.
Motorists in these areas have also been advised to consider alternative routes and allow extra travel time.
Later that day, between 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m., another event will be held at Eko Hotel and within Victoria Island, where commuters are advised to avoid the corridor or expect significant delays.
The government noted that officials of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) and other traffic enforcement agencies will be on ground to manage traffic and assist road users.
Additionally, 500 extra LASTMA officers have been deployed to ensure effective traffic control during the events, which will be attended by President Bola Tinubu.
Osiyemi urged residents to cooperate with traffic officials and comply with all directives to guarantee smooth vehicular movement throughout the period.
