The Lagos State Government has unveiled a traffic diversion plan ahead of the 2026 Lagos City Marathon, set for Saturday, February 14, 2026.
According to the plan, several roads will be closed for up to 12 hours during the event.
The Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, explained that the marathon will feature both 42-kilometre and 10-kilometre races running simultaneously on designated routes.
“The 42-kilometre race will commence at Ahmadu Bello Way (by MRS Gas Station) and run through the entire stretch of the Coastal Road to the finishing point.
“The 10-kilometre race will begin at Durosimi Etti in Lekki Phase 1 and proceed through Ozumba Mbadiwe, Bishop Oluwole, Akin Adesola, and end at Sanusi Fafunwa.” Osiyemi said.
He added that all adjoining roads, junctions, and intersections along the race routes will be blocked from 12:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., but will be reopened intermittently as the marathon progresses.
Officials from the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) and other security agencies will be deployed to manage traffic and prevent unauthorised access to the race corridors.
Osiyemi urged residents to plan their movements in advance, use alternative routes, and consider other modes of transportation.
He also appealed for patience, noting that the temporary closures are part of arrangements for the 11th edition of the Access Bank Lagos City Marathon 2026.
