- Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has appointed Dagogo Wokoma as Secretary to the State Government and Sunny Ewule as Chief of Staff
- The appointments follow political realignment after the governor dissolved his cabinet and removed advisers
- The swearing-in ceremony is scheduled for 2 p.m. at the Government House in Port Harcourt
The Governor of Rivers State, Siminalayi Fubara, has appointed a new Secretary to the State Government (SSG) and Chief of Staff at Government House.
According to a statement issued on Thursday, February 26, the governor named Dagogo Wokoma as the new SSG and Sunny Ewule as Chief of Staff.
The appointments were announced in a Special Government Announcement signed by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Onwuka Nzeshi, and made available to journalists.
The statement noted that the appointments take immediate effect, adding that the new appointees would be sworn in at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 26, at the Executive Council Chamber of Government House, Port Harcourt.
The statement read, “The Governor of Rivers State, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, has appointed Dr Dagogo S.A. Wokoma as the Secretary to the State Government and Barrister Sunny Ewule as the Chief of Staff.
“Both appointments are with immediate effect. The new appointees will be sworn in at 2:00 p.m. today, Thursday, February 26, 2026. The swearing-in ceremony will take place at the Executive Council Chamber, Government House, Port Harcourt.’”
The new SSG replaces Benibo Anabraba, while the Chief of Staff position previously held by Edison Ehie has also changed hands. Ehie’s role had been the subject of speculation since the intervention of Bola Tinubu in the political crisis in the state.
Sources indicate that the new appointments follow the recent reconciliation between Governor Fubara and his former political ally, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, after President Tinubu’s intervention to prevent the planned impeachment of the governor by the state assembly.
The Speaker of the Assembly, Martin Amaewhule, announced during plenary last week that the House had officially withdrawn its impeachment proceedings against Fubara and his deputy, Ngozi Odu, following the president’s intervention.
Governor Fubara had recently dissolved his cabinet of eight commissioners and relieved all Special Advisers of their duties.
Meanwhile, no reason was provided for the removal of the former office holders.
